DENVER—Gretchen Redfield, Colorado Christian University faculty member and Technical Services Librarian, has been invited to attend the Instructor Development Seminar for the "Fundamentals of Library of Congress Classification" course on October 30, 2007, in Washington, D.C. Selected from a large pool of applicants, she is one of only 23 chosen from academic libraries nationwide.

Upon completion of the seminar, Redfield will conduct similar training across the country with select faculty from schools such as Princeton University, University of Illinois, and Columbia University.

The Library of Congress chose course participants based upon level of specialized experience and depth of communication and training skills. Redfield specializes in facilitating public access to library databases. On behalf of the Library of Congress, she previously headed a national committee to standardize online database and catalogue processes throughout the United States.

Redfield began working at CCU in 2003. She has been a librarian for 33 years, holds a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University, and is a liaison to the Business and Global Studies Department at CCU. She also serves on CCU’s Faculty Affairs Committee. According to CCU Library Director Gayle Gunderson, "Gretchen is an enthusiastic and dedicated librarian and a strong supporter of information sharing and training. She will represent our University well in benefiting the wider academic library community."

CCU's Clifton Fowler Library provides services and collections for students, staff, and faculty at the University's main Lakewood campus and regional learning centers in Grand Junction, Loveland, Colorado Springs, and elsewhere. The Library also maintains a virtual network, entitled Library Web, which offers online resources and journal and reference databases to adult and distance learning students. The library faculty aims for high-quality integration of the University's academic, faith, and student-learning mission.

"We are thrilled at Gretchen's invitation to attend the Library of Congress seminar," commented CCU president Bill Armstrong. "Our University employs a faculty and staff who work hard to maintain high scholastic standards. This gesture from the Library of Congress is a confirming nod that we are headed in the right direction."
