DENVER-- Leaders representing many Christian organizations held a press conference Monday, July 1 announcing its opposition to Colorado's new censorship law, SB 200. Gov. Bill Ritter signed Senate Bill 200 which expands “anti-discrimination” law to cover sexual orientation, meaning not only homosexuality or bisexuality, but also “transgender status or another person’s perception thereof.”

Section 8 of the new law reads: "Publishing of discriminative matter forbidden. No person, being the owner, agent, or employee of any place of public accommodation shall publish, issue, circulate, send, distribute, give away, or display in any way, manner or method, except as provided in this section, any communication, book, pamphlet, writing or advertisement of any kind, nature, or description that is intended or calculated to discriminate or actually discriminates against sexual oriantation, marital status... in the matter of schooling or any accommodation, right, privilege, advantage, or convenience... on account of sexual orientation, marital status... [which] is unwelcome..."

Mathew Staver, founder & chairman of the Liberty Counsel, expressed concern about First Amendment rights being violated. "With this bill comes a significant threat to freedom of religion," said Staver.

Colorado State Representative Kevin Lundberg said "SB200 is a wide open door for any judge to censor anything that condemns homosexuality, including Scripture."

Janet Folger, author of The Criminalization of Christianity, announced at the conference and on her nationally syndicated radio program her plans to help fight the government censorship and religious infringements of Colorado's SB200. "This bill makes Colorado ground zero for the battle of Christianity," said Folger.

Many in attendance came forward to purchase the book in defiance of the bill. "The homosexual agenda is the biggest threat to Christianity," said Folger. "As we celebrate July 4th - in Colorado it is okay to be a Nazi, but one belief you can't have is that of Christianity."

The bill also appears to allow men who self-identify as “transgender” a legal right to demand using women’s bathrooms, health club showers, bathhouses, and any other “public accommodation."
