SANTA ANA, CA (ANS) -- “There is no other country in the world where Christians are being persecuted in such a horrible and systematic manner. Often three generations of Christians are hunted down and killed or placed in prisons. The recent dialogue and concessions by North Korea won’t affect the believers in this hermit country ... North Korea has not softened its targeting of thousands of Christians one bit.” Carl Moeller, President/CEO of Open Doors USA, recently made those comments on the United States government’s decision to remove North Korea from the State Sponsors of Terrorism.

This Sunday Open Doors USA and other members of the Global Justice Prayer Network are partnering to sponsor the Worldwide Day of Fasting and Prayer for North Korea. It is a call to Christians worldwide to repentance and intercession for North Korea. For six straight years North Korea has been No. 1 on Open Doors’ World Watch List of countries where believers suffer the worst persecution.

July 27 is the 55th anniversary of the Korean War armistice and creation of the Demilitarized Zone, the border which divides North and South Korea and the most heavily armed border in the world.

Open Doors is asking churches, ministries and individuals to intercede on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Christ in North Korea
Prayer Points:

* The estimated 50,000 to 70,000 Christians who are imprisoned for their faith; about one in four believers has been imprisoned.
* Underground believers will keep the faith while under extreme scrutiny.
* The liberating message of the Gospel will impact the hearts of Kim Jong Il and other North Korean leaders.
* China will stop its heightened efforts to repatriate North Korean refugees hiding in China before the start of the Olympics.

An estimated 100 million Christians worldwide suffer interrogation, arrest and even death for their faith in Christ, with more millions facing discrimination and alienation. Open Doors supports and strengthens believers in the world's most difficult areas through Bible and Christian literature distribution, leadership training and assistance, Christian community development, prayer and presence ministry and advocacy on behalf of suffering believers.
