The Rev. E.L. Porter, pastor of Greater Galilee Missionary and also Hurricane Katrina survivor, will serve as the Host Pastor of the upcoming Community Service of Remembrance and Hope concerning Hurricane Katrina and the 2008 Indiana Flood & Wind Disaster. The event is sponsored by The Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis. “It is a story that will be remembered for the rest of my life and should be shared with readers around the world about how God saved and delivered my family,” said Porter. “But now I just want to give thanks to those in Indianapolis and the state of Indiana who were there for us.”

Pastor Porter was one of over 2,000 families and friends affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 that arrived in Greater Indianapolis. The service is open to the public and will be held at Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4375 N. Arlington - Indianapolis, Indiana at 7 pm, Friday, August 29th. Hurricane Katrina happened on the same date in 2005.

The Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis played a key role in working with the faith community, government and private sector in the re-settling of families in the Greater Indianapolis in 2005.

With the expected arrival of Hurricane Rita and the devastation from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, The Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis, in cooperation with the Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, sent two workers to Houston, Texas to work with families who had to evacuate because of the hurricanes. Both Rev. Patricia Case, a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) minister and Rev. Bruce Naylor with the Congregational Support of Disaster Responsiveness represented the federation.
